From memory this was a Fiat trackshovel we used for mucking out, loading the spoil into a couple of dumpers which ran it to the pit bottom where it was emptied into a skip for lifting to the surface

 

 

 

 

Atlas 1605 with special tunnelling front end.

The very short boom was cranked allowing the dipper and whatever was attached to it, eg, breaker,  clay spade or bucket to be angled to follow the contour of the tunnel.

 

I believe both Atlas machines worked previously in construction of the Channel Tunnel
